Introduction to Cosmetic Plastic Surgery
Rhinoplasty (nose surgery), liposuction and breast augmentation surgery are three of the most popular types of cosmetic plastic surgery. Other commonly performed plastic surgery procedures include tummy tuck and facelift. Learn more about breast, nose and tummy aesthetic procedures from the Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery.
Many people now focus on staying healthy and living longer. They also want to maintain a more youthful appearance. Cosmetic plastic surgery procedures can be used to rejuvenate many areas of the body, including the breastline, body contour, face and skin. These procedures can enhance the appearance and turn back the hands of time in many patients. New developments in breast implants have also aided the field of plastic surgery.
Combination Procedures
New technology and surgical techniques also now allow combinations of procedures to be used to improve the body shape and profile. One of the most popular of these combinations is called the mommy makeover. This type of plastic surgery incorporates breast augmentation (sometimes breast lift or breast lift with augmentation), tummy tuck and liposuction. When performed together, these procedures are designed specifically to tighten and reshape a woman's body after child bearing. These procedures are typically never performed in the same surgical setting, but are often staged over a number of months, allowing for the proper recovery from each individual procedure.
Facial surgery procedures are also now often performed in conjunction, as well as together with non-invasive procedures. For example, a facelift and rhinoplasty can be performed together in order to dramatically enhance the facial skin and profile. Facelift is also sometimes performed in conjunction with browlift and necklift in order to enhance the face and surrounding areas. Insertion of facial implants, such as for the chin, is also performed in conjunction with facelift. As with the combination procedures for the body, the individual facial area procedures are not performed in the same surgical setting.
Non-invasive procedures are very popular when combined with surgical procedures. Injectables, such as BOTOX injections and Dysport are widely used for patients who have also undergone facelift. While the facelift is used to lift and tighten the facial skin and muscles, the injectables are used to smooth surface wrinkles.
