Mesothelioma is a rare asbestos-related cancer that affects the mesothelial cells of the body's serous membranes. Two to three thousand new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year. Malignant mesothelioma can involve either epithelioid or sarcomatoid cancer cells.
